A meter change usually turns up as a condition of something else — a solar connection, a move to time-of-use pricing, an old accumulation meter that has reached end of life, or a retailer telling you a digital meter is required before they can proceed.
Whichever it is, the work has to be done by an accredited service provider and recorded with the network. We handle the meter, the space it goes into, and the notification, so the job does not stall halfway between your retailer and your distributor.

When a meter change comes up

Where the delays usually happen
Most meter jobs that drag on do so for one reason: the panel is not fit to take the new meter, and nobody found out until the installer was on site. Old fibro panels, undersized mains, missing main switches and corroded earths all stop the job.
We check that first. If remedial work is needed you hear it at quoting stage with a price attached, not on the morning of the install.

Can any electrician change my meter?
No. Metering work is restricted to accredited service providers. A general electrician cannot legally break the network seal.
Do I arrange it with my retailer or with you?
It depends on why the meter is changing. Call us with what your retailer has told you and we will tell you which path applies to your situation.
How long is the power off?
Usually a couple of hours for a straightforward swap. Longer if the panel needs work first.
Will I need three phase?
Only if your load calls for it — ducted air conditioning, a large EV charger, workshop equipment or a bigger solar inverter. We can assess what your place actually draws.
Can you do units and strata?
Yes, including meter panels in common property. Strata approval may be needed before we start.
