Most solar exports its best hours into the grid for a few cents and buys the same energy back at night for many times that. A battery closes that gap. Whether it pays depends on your usage shape, your tariff and the size of the array feeding it.
We install batteries alongside new solar and retrofit them to existing systems. Where you want the lights to stay on in a blackout, that is a different install again — backup needs its own circuits and its own switching, and we will tell you what it costs before you commit to it.

Questions worth asking first

- Is your inverter hybrid-ready, or does it need replacing?
- Where will it physically go, and is that spot cool enough?
- What does the manufacturer warranty actually cover?
Backup is not automatic
A battery on its own does not keep your house running in a blackout. For that, the system needs backup capability and a separate set of essential circuits that can be isolated from the grid — otherwise the system shuts down with everyone else's for safety reasons.
It is a worthwhile addition, particularly if you are on a storm-prone line, but it needs deciding at design stage rather than added afterwards.

Can I add a battery to solar I already have?
Usually yes, either with a compatible battery inverter or by replacing the existing inverter with a hybrid. We check your model first.
Will it run my whole house in a blackout?
Only what the system is designed and sized for, and only if backup is included. Whole-house backup is rarely practical or cheap.
How long do batteries last?
Manufacturers warrant a throughput or a number of years, whichever comes first. We quote by make and model so you can compare the actual warranty.
Are there rebates for batteries?
Battery incentives change and vary by scheme. Ask us for the current position when you get your quote rather than relying on an old article.
Where does it get installed?
Somewhere with clearance, ventilation and a temperature range the manufacturer allows. Garages and shaded external walls are common.
